Installation of burlap, wooden stumps, cinder blocks, and moss

Walking into the woods, even one nestled right next to a university campus, is transformative and relaxing. This installation is positioned so that the sitter is turned away from the trailhead and “civilization.” This literally symbolizes leaving behind and forgetting the outside world while taking time in nature.

The specific location and position of the work is key to my analysis of how people spend time in nature to relax or recuperate from their daily lives, and how that is accomplished within each person’s comfort zone. The “chair” in this installation represents a person’s comfort zone within nature combined with the desire to employ nature for relaxation.
